Artemis

 HELLO!

In the summary 2024 I mentioned that I'd like to create a picture inspired by Greek mythology. To be precise an image of certain goddess - by that I meant Artemis. Fascinating goddess of hunt, Apollo's twin sister who is associated with the Moon.

I thought of my future picture as a nocturne showing the mighty goddess standing prepared with her bow and arrows in the moonlight.

Below there are doodles in which I tried various poses.

My main inspiration for the third doodle was a sculpture Diana of Versailles, exhibited in the Louvre Museum. I loved the way her tunic was sculpted so it appeared in the final version. I was trying to recreate a draping on the tunic with a pen which run out of ink.

Below you can see a drawing before I started applying pastels and watercolour crayons.

Behind Artemis's back there are silhouettes of deers walking through the forest. There are also 2 faithful, black greyhounds in the background (the second one is visible in the picture below).

Below her feet there are rocks, and unindentified body of water.

Below there phases of applying pastels (both dry and oil), and also watercolour crayons (mainly Artemis, and deers).

And finally, the net result of my work.

Artemis, watercolour crayons and pastels on a paper, 41,9 x 29,5 cm.

That's all.

Let me know in the comments what do You think about Artemis.

🎊

Happy New Year!
